"All a man's ways seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart." (V2) Sometimes we get ourselves into trouble by jumping into things, or saying things we think we need to... sometimes we forget to focus on God and seek him before we make a decision. Make sure you are spending quiet time alone with him every single day. You are not too busy... you make the time. God has so much to teach you and skipping over it will result in a distorted judgement and lack of wisdom. |
God can do so much through you and in you, he can show you so much more than you could ever imagine but you have to give him your time. To make decisions as Jesus would, to live as Jesus did we need to be in a constant walk with him. You become who you spend your time with. Bit and pieces from people rub off on you.... the good, the bad... it all affects you.
"To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice." (V3)
Sacrificing everything, external worship, simply doing good is not enough and is repulsive to the Lord if your heart has not been changed by God. No matter how hidden you may think it is... God knows your heart.
We should WANT to love others, seek truth and purity not because we feel obligated to because of a little 'feeling' we feel at church sometimes but because of the beautiful sacrifice that got rid of all the sin... because of God's grace. He humbled himself and went through intense pain and suffering all so we could have a relationship with him and spend our eternity in his presence.
Anyone can do good now and then, anyone can throw their hands up in worship because of an emotions and anyone can say a prayer when they need one answered. Do these matter if you are not a believer? Do these matter if your heart is full of sin?
Verse 14 talks about when giving a gift or doing something nice for someone, we shouldn't flaunt it. That turns the gift or thing we do into something ugly and selfish. That is us stealing the good right out of it to reward ourselves. Give God the glory, not yourself!
"A man who strays from the path of understanding comes to rest in the company of the dead." (V16)
Faith keeps us on the right path, doubt brings eternal condemnation. Stay in the ord and maintain your relationship with God. Water it and nurture it and it will grow.
How do you expect a marriage to work without communication? It's a daily thing to work at.
"There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord." (V30) We have nothing without God. Our works, our relationships mean nothing. Our plans will not succeed without God's leading in our lives. Make sure you are letting God guide your steps... not yourself.
