Chapter 10 has SO many great verses on how we are to live and what will happen if we do not obey. Each verse provides us with a clear depiction between choosing 'the way of life' and 'the way of folly'.
"The man of integrity walks securely, but he who takes crooked paths will be found out." (v 9)
Integrity is being honest, having strong moral principles and sticking to the. It can also mean 'to be complete/whole', which we are in Christ.
Are you walking as a man or woman of integrity? Setting God and his word before everything else without compromise? God is our guide, the bible is our map... we need them to navigate through life as a christian. Putting them second will NOT work. It just won't. It says in verse 27, "The fear of the Lord adds to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short." To 'fear the Lord' as we talked about in a previous chapter does NOT mean to physically be afraid of God... but to respect, obey and to submit to his teachings, above all else. By definition, a crooked path will end up almost anywhere except the right place. Why do you think the Adult Israelites didn't make it to the promise land? God's was leading them on the straight and narrow, guiding them through... but they removed their focus and they became 'crooked' in their obedience toward God which sadly led them astray.
Don't set foot on that path friends, no matter what comes your way... not even for a wee look or 'paddle in the sparkling pool that looks like so much fun'.
God want to do something greater in your life through your circumstance.
You cannot begin to imagine it!
"He who heeds discipline shows the way of life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray." (verse 17)
This brings me back to Proverbs chapter 6 verse 23, "For this command is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and correction and instruction are the way to life."
We are to be the light in the darkness in everything we do, every choice we make, regardless of the situation. We are also to be teachable so that we can learn more about wisdom and understand better what God's word is telling us. We must constantly be growing and burning for God because we are the light... we do not know who is watching in the darkness, but people are watching. Watching what you do day to day, what you prioritize in life, who comes first in your life, they are watching what topics, relationships, arguments you support or do not support. Be a light! Have a look at Matthew 12:35, it talks about good being brought out from the good stored in a man but how evil that is stored up inside (jealousy, sinful thoughts, hatred, etc) will be brought to light. You can do good works, have good intentions but if God does not dwell in your heart, what is the point? What is in your heart will become you, it will control your lifestyle. It brings you...life. Is your heart mirroring God?
Verse 28 is powerful!
"The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing."
You have plans for your life and that is okay, but do not let them control you and do not try and control them... give them to God, surrender your wants, passions and desires to God, he has every part of your future already figured out and I can guarantee it is 10 billion times more incredible than what any of us could ever imagine!
