"Humility and the fear of the Lord bring wealth and honor and life." (V4) We must become less and God must become more. Thinking too highly of yourself will lead you to think you are in no need of God. You will think you are in control and it will cause our decisions to be centered on our own wants and needs instead of God's leading. By doing that we are choosing to ignore God's plan in our lives. God is to be first in all things. Remember you are to live in humility, putting others needs before your own, letting God take control and direct your paths... he will bless you for it. "Train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it." (V6) Raising your child up the way God wants is so important. |
Children look at your lifestyle. They often imitate what they see. The best thing you can do is to live by example. They see what you do when nobody is looking, they watch how you react in situations. Plant those little seeds in them while they are young. Everything you say does matter. Teach them God's teachings, tell them about Jesus and his parables, teach them about what Jesus did. You never know when one of those little seeds will suddenly bloom!
"Drive out the mocker, and out goes strife; quarrels and insults are ended." (V10)
Get rid of negativity in your life. Do not associate with those who instead of building you up, choose to tear you apart. Remember that whoever you spend your time with will have an affect on you... they will rub off on you.
"Pay attention and listen to the sayings of the wise, apply your heart to what I teach." (V17)
Do not just lightly read his word. Absorb it and apply it to your life. in decisions and in hard times.
Verse 20 and 21 are showing us how much advice we have been given. He has given us clear instruction how to live our lives. He teaches us right from wrong, the importance of the words we speak and he leads us to a life of wisdom.
