I wanted to start this blog with this verse because it is so important to us as christians. We are told to walk in the light, to be in the light not darkness.
Who and what do you associate yourself with? Who and what defines you? What hobbies or passions define the person you are today? Do they define you?
Are we holding fast to his teachings and standing against evil? Are we living our life as a testimony and reflection to God?
Everything we do has an effect on our heart. Are we sheltering our heart? Making decisions that are 'guarding' it?
Every 'society', 'event', and lifestyle you support or are apart of that is not of God that we are staying silent about because 'it's easier to keep quiet and keep the peace, it's really not my business' is wrong. Our aim should not be to please the world but to honor God... If it is written and you believe it is wrong, you should not condone it, REGARDLESS of the circumstance.
It is so incredibly important to live out what is in your heart and if you are a christian, God dwells in you... he is your life. What you do represents God and what he stands for. I think we all could use some practice in 'being bold in christ'.
Why is the heart such an important part of everything?
"Above all else, guard your heart for it is the wellspring of life". (verse 23)
Our thoughts often dictate our behaviour, we have to be constantly checking ourselves.
The heart can hold evil and good. Bitterness, envy, and pride can turn a heart to stone... but joy, patience, faithfulness etc can get your heart beating and as we talked about before those fruits of the spirit should be visible to others.
Are you guarding your heart every day?
Your heart is the essence of who you are, the core of your being. Where dreams are made, passions thrive, desires grow and where love can freely flow. Your heart is what connects you to God.
"Wellspring of life" means it's the source to everything...
Don't let tough times make your heart cold, instead continually seek God and keep your heart pure and on fire for Jesus!
