Man it's hard getting up some morning, every day this week I have struggled getting out of my bed... Even harder sometimes to make myself sit down to really get into God's word. Life can get so busy and morning can be so difficult (even after 2 or more cups of coffee). I am learning to give God my mornings... give him your heart and seek him before you start your day! I am travelling to visit my parents and have a photo shoot in Maryland this weekend so Peter and I are driving out after work tonight (with lots of coffee) but we won't be arriving in until after midnight so I wanted to make sure I did not skip out on today's proverb! It would have been a lot easier to do that and stay in bed a little longer though ;) Here we go!
"Wisdom has built her house, she has hewn out its seven pillars." (verse 1)
Chapter 8 verse 12 mentions what some people say is in reference to the seven pillars talked about here. The seven pillars have been known as 7 attributes of wisdom, not physical pillars from a house, they are the following:
1.Prudence
2.Knowledge
3.Fear of the Lord
4.Counsel
5.Sound Wisdom
6.Understanding
7.Strength
These first few verses are painting an image of wisdom and then comparing to the unwise, foolish who is talking to the people who, 'lack judgement'. Verse 10 says, "The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the holy one is understanding."
Fear of the Lord explained:
-Respecting him
-Obeying him
-Submitting to his discipline
-Worshipping him in awe
To fear the Lord is referred to in scripture as a positive quality. It acknowledges God's good intentions. It will bring us life.
"For through me, your days will be added to your life." (verse 11) I don't think he is necessarily talking about human days on earth, but eternity spent forever with God... which like yesterdays chapter is more precious than gold and silver.
