"To man belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the reply of the tongue." (V1) We can have a lot of great ideas and dream to do great things but God's plan for our lives is SO much better. God will lead your heart where it needs to go, sometimes that will make sense to us but other times it will take us the other way, away from our own plans. We must remember that God is the one who dwells in us, he is molding us to be more like him. Don't get carried away with your own plans. Let God be your decider. |
I love what verse 3 says, "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed." Have you ever found yourself content and at peace about a decision or in general where you are in life and have God suddenly come in and lay something new and to you, scary in front of you? I have had that happen, a lot recently.
God's plans are far greater than our own and even though we do not see it, God does. God sees the big picture. He knows where we will live, he knows when we will die. He has so many adventures and learning curves in store for us in between. Saying yes to God being in control often takes us out of our comfort zones. Saying yes to God comes with hard times. Saying yes to God's plan for our life often makes us question because we fail to see how God's timing is perfect for reasons we cannot imagine. But saying yes to God's plan in your life is bold, it is beautiful. It will be an adventure with ups and downs. It will test you to your limits but you will see strength and perseverance you never thought you had because with God all things are possible. Weak are made strong. In everything you do, in work and in play, devote it to God. Be the light of God in your workspace, with your friends. Learn to persevere, learn to love harder, be a difference!
Give your dreams and passions to the Lord. In everything you do, glorify the Lord. Do not make quick decisions based on how you feel or based on what you want others to think or say. Pride is what caused lucifer to miss out on heaven. A prideful heart is focused on SELF. This where the problem begins.
We must first be connecting UP to God. Reaching up we will recognize our need for God in our lives. When we respond to his perfect love and grace we find a change in our hearts. He becomes the desire of our heart which will move us to reach out to others in the same way God did for us. Self is not where we start. Proverbs 8:13 explains how we should HATE pride, arrogance and corruption. Pride will harden your heart, you will despise others and you will cause immediate separation between you and God.
Verse 23 and 24 are talking about being wise in what you say. If it's not pleasing to God, it is better left unsaid.
"Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes the city." (V32) Slow to anger, quick to forgive, reaching up before out is honorable. If your heart is not right with God yet you have all the riches in the world, what is that worth? Where are you placing your worth? You will never find peace doing that.
